Coforma Employees Support Food Security for Company Volunteer Day

A look at how Coforma’s company-wide Volunteer Day brought remote employees together to support nutrition initiatives in their local communities.

As self-described “public servants at heart,” Coforma employees are passionate about improving our communities and making a difference in people’s lives. Volunteering is something that connects us to those communities, to our coworkers, and to the “why” behind our work.

Each year, Coforma employees enjoy a company-wide Volunteer Day—a paid day off to support causes and organizations we care about. For 2025, our PeopleOps and MarComms leaders aligned our company’s philanthropic efforts with hands-on community engagement in our healthcare focus area.

“This year, we wanted to bring Coforma’s commitment to community impact to life in an area that’s meaningful to us,” said Tanya Wheeler-Berliner, Head of Marketing and Communications. “In addition to our sponsorship of the American Heart Association, Greater Washington Region (AHA GWR) in their work to improve nutrition security in several DC-area food pantries, we invited our employees to volunteer at their local food pantries or donate healthy food to them. It was the perfect opportunity for our remote team to come together, have fun, and make a difference.”

Amanda Sparks, Anthony Tran, Natalie Hill, Buddhima Kurukulasurya, and Amanda Harr joined forces at the Central Texas Food Bank. “It felt meaningful to me to meet in person and volunteer with other Cofolx for an organization that directly gives back to our immediate community,” said Senior Product Designer, Natalie Hill. “Along with other volunteers, we helped process 7,800 lbs/6,500 meals in our shift alone.”

Zack Youngren, Qian Chen, Ruben Sun, Kareen Foucault, and Elizabeth Chin volunteered their time at 9 Million Reasons. “Even though it was a rainy day in NYC, our team had a wonderful time sorting, packing, and distributing food to our neighbors in Queens," Kareen Foucault, Director of Human Resources, shared.

In true Wisconsin fashion, Ann Buechner, Felipe Gacharná, Jess Jones, and Megan Holman dedicated their day to processing cheese for Second Harvest Food Bank. “We had a great time rolling up our sleeves and diving into cheese together. It felt good spending time as a team and giving back to our local community,” said Senior Digital Marketing Manager, Felipe Gacharná.

Elizabeth Mandel, Fiorella Geedi, and Christina Kornegay spent the day at Bread for the City. Fiorella Geedi, Senior Product Designer, reflected, “I love that Coforma has a dedicated day for volunteering! It was a two-bonus event: the gratification of giving back and the opportunity to connect with other Cofolx.”

We’re grateful for the chance to give back together and proud of our employees for stepping up to make a difference.
