Designing Inclusive Digital Experiences for Veterans

The newly established Digital Experience Accessibility Team will help product teams at the Department of Veterans Affairs prioritize accessibility in their workflows.

We’re excited to announce that Coforma has been awarded a task order under the SPRUCE IDIQ for a 2.5-year project with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) valued at up to $9.8 million. Expanding on our ongoing accessibility work with VA’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), this project establishes a specialized Digital Experience Accessibility Team to help carry out VA’s “accessibility beyond compliance” mission.

As of 2024, nearly 40% of Veterans have an identified disability, with about 1.52 million Veterans having a service-connected disability rating of 70% or higher.

To ensure VA is designing digital solutions that meet the highest usability standards for all users, the Digital Experience Accessibility Team will equip VA product teams with the tools, knowledge, and mindset needed to prioritize accessibility throughout their workflows. Integrating accessibility early on will help VA continue to deliver tools that empower Veterans and streamline their access to services.

“Accessibility work is more important than ever in 2025, and we remain committed alongside our partners at VA to creating inclusive digital experiences for all Veterans, their caregivers, and families,” says Rico Rivera, Coforma’s Director of Customer Experience for Veterans Services.

This work builds on our extensive experience within the VA ecosystem. We have previously helped VA migrate, adapt, and develop content for the modernized VA.gov experience and other associated products via the Centralized Content, Accessibility, and Information Architecture project. We look forward to this new opportunity to deepen our knowledge and expand our positive impact on the Veteran community.
